Oakhurst · Sierra Foothills · California
Come home to the mountains. Smith Family Cabin is a private, rustic retreat where the only Wi-Fi is the one between you and the people you love — and the only alarm clock is the dawn chorus at sunrise.
Our Story
Smith Family Cabin isn't a corporate property. It's a home. Built and tended by the Smith family for over three decades, this cabin sits quietly off Road 222, far enough from the main road that the only sounds are wind through pines and the occasional deer at dusk.
We opened our doors to travelers because we believe the best vacations aren't about checking off landmarks — they're about slowing down, breathing air that doesn't taste like exhaust, and remembering what it feels like to sit around a fire without looking at a screen.
Whether you're passing through on the way to Yosemite, escaping the valley heat, or simply need a weekend where nothing is expected of you except to be present, this is the place.
Every guest is welcomed personally. No key lockboxes, no property managers — just real people who care.
Set back from the road with neighboring cabins far enough away that you'll forget anyone else is nearby.
Rustic doesn't mean rough. Clean linens, a well-equipped kitchen, and a stone fireplace that actually works.
The Cabin
The cabin is designed for one thing: making room for what matters. Two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a living area with a wood-burning stove, and a deck that faces east so the first light of day finds you before you've decided to get up.
A queen in the master and two twins in the second room — comfortably sleeps four, cozy for six. Fresh linens provided each stay.
All the cookware, a full-size refrigerator, stove, and oven. Bring your own coffee or grab fresh grounds from the local roaster down the road.
The heart of the cabin. Firewood is supplied. All you have to do is strike a match and let the Sierra evenings unfold.
Overlooking the tree line with two chairs and a small table. Morning coffee out here is not something to rush.
Hot water, fresh towels, and basic amenities. No fancy resort toiletries — just clean, reliable, and ready.
Free parking right by the cabin. A stone fire pit sits in the yard for evening gatherings under the stars.
Surroundings
Just a short drive from Oakhurst, the southern entrance to Yosemite opens up to waterfalls, granite domes, and ancient groves of giant sequoias. Mariposa Grove is closer than you'd expect.
Calaveras Big Trees and Yosemite's Mariposa Grove are both within easy reach. Walking among trees that have stood for a thousand years puts everything else into perspective.
A genuine mountain town with a general store, coffee shop, restaurant, and a community that actually knows your name. It's what the Sierra foothills are all about.
We've been coming to this cabin for five years running. My kids ask if we can skip Christmas this year and just go straight to cabin season. That says more than any review ever could.
